Why I’m Supporting Taking The PIP
I’m supporting the #TakingThePIP campaign because for disabled people like me, PIP isn’t a luxury — it’s what levels the playing field. Without it, I wouldn’t just struggle — I’d be excluded.
PIP covers essential things that most people don’t even think twice about. Things like getting ready for work, travelling safely, or managing your energy just to get through the day. In my case, it’s what allows me to tour the country with my comedy, to work, to live independently. PIP doesn’t give me an advantage — it gives me a chance.
The Government is consulting on changes that could remove PIP from up to 1.3 million people. That’s not reform – that’s a crisis waiting to happen. Many stand to lose £4,000–£6,000 a year, in a world where disabled people already face 63% higher living costs.
Every time I hear someone say disabled people just want "handouts", I want them to understand the reality. This benefit has never made me rich. It doesn’t come easy, and it definitely doesn’t come without stress. It’s not about comfort — it’s about survival. It’s what keeps me able to work, to pay my rent, to keep doing what I love. Take it away, and all of that comes crashing down.
The idea that needing help with showering, cooking, or just social interaction makes someone "undeserving" is not only wrong — it’s dangerous. We’re being told that basic human needs don’t count unless they fit inside some box on a form. And when that happens, people fall through the gaps. They’re pushed further into poverty, isolation, and desperation.
And it’s not just PIP. Access to Work, a scheme that’s supposed to help disabled people stay in employment, is becoming a problem in itself. I’ve waited months for help that was supposed to be urgent. The delays, the red tape, the constant chasing — it’s exhausting. I don’t need a battle just to do my job.
Right now, there are over 55,000 people stuck in the Access to Work system, waiting months for the support they need. Some businesses have already closed because of unpaid claims. I’m not a special case — I’m just another name on a long, broken list. If this is the government’s idea of "support", then they’re not helping us work — they’re pushing us out.
That’s why I’m backing #TakingThePIP. Because these aren’t just policy changes. They’re life changes. They threaten our ability to live, to work, to be independent. And we can’t stay quiet about that.
If you’re disabled, or you care about someone who is, now’s the time to speak up. Because if we don’t fight for PIP — we may not have it to rely on for much longer.

There's no such thing as a stupid question. If people don't ask, they'll never know.
So here's my answer to a question I got asked recently: "Does cerebral palsy get worse as you get older?"
If you've got another question you've always Read morewondered about, drop it in the comments. It could be the next video.

I'm so excited to finally be able to say this...
The Cerebral Palsy Puppet is heading out on tour in Spring 2027.
It's been five years since my last UK tour, and I can't wait to get back on stage with a brand new show. This is probably my most personal show yet, butRead more don't worry, it's still packed with the jokes, stories and questionable life choices you'd expect from me.
If I'm coming to a theatre near you, I'd love to see you there. Some venues are quite intimate, so if you'd like to come along, I'd recommend booking sooner rather than later.
🎟️ Tickets are on sale from Friday 2 October at 10am via the link in the bio.

Being able to walk a few steps shouldn’t mean you’re denied the powered wheelchair you clinically need.
Lucy from Lulabelle’s Chronic Journey has launched a Parliamentary petition calling for NHS powered wheelchair provision to be based on clinical need, safety and independence, not Read moresimply whether someone can stand or walk.
She also wants to hear from other wheelchair users who have faced similar barriers.
